PDF Printing

I see this has been asked several times...and I have tried every solution offered and followed the directions on the website about changing  distiller settings, changing the color folder (to what), making sure the post script level is at three, printing to a file....nothing is allowing me to convert a .pub to a CMYK PDF. Has anyone done this successfully? What was the secret? Thank you for your help. (By Maureen)

A few simple steps:

In Publisher:
a. Select "Generic Color PS for Commercial Printing" as your printer output.
b. On "File/Print/Advanced settings" select Composite CMYK.
c. Tools/Commercial Printing Tools/Color printing select "Process colors CMYK".

Print your pages to a output file with the ending .ps.

Open Adobe Acrobat Distiller and select "Press Quality" settings, or better PDF/X-1a if you have the professional version (check with your printer). Open your .ps file, and it will produce your .pdf The resulting PDF file should be separated CMYK!!!

"Cannot Load Printer Driver" A workaround.(This is for folks with Dell Printers or might work with other printers as well) Posted by Phil.

Go to settings, printer folder, add an HP IIP printer, set it as the default. When in Publisher,2003 Go to file and print and select the Dell printer.

This is actually a Lexmark printer,  and the same problem exists for them as well.

Same BROTHER problem.  I can print to other printers but not Brother.  I contacted Brother and they were no help and blamed it all on Microsoft.  I TRICKED IT into working.

Hope this works for someone else:  I went to (printers) and selected a new default printer.  I used an old one (Panasonic kxp-1624) Then I hit print preview and it finally showed a preview.  Then I minimized that screen and

went back to printer and defaulted back to Brother, then brought back up the minimized preview screen from publisher and hit PRINT. It worked, and now it seems to recognize Brother without going thru it each time.  My Brother was an mfc-240c.

Duplex Printing by PostDead, April 2008

Well, I have got there by trial and error. Having queried 'duplex printing' on this forum I can see I am not alone but most issues seem to do with HP drivers whereas this affects several printers e..g. Adobe PDF, Xerox DocuColor 242, Oce900.

The Solution:

Instead of having Page Range 'All Pages' selected, change the page range to Pages: and enter the complete page range e.g. 1-16 for a 16 page booklet.

Note: if you want to strip off the cover e.g. for separate colour printing inside & out, you used to just select pages 1-2 and Publisher 98-2003 would know to bring in the corresponding back pages, but now in Publisher 2007 you seem to have to specify the back pages too e.g. 1,2,15,16 for a 16 page booklet with colour cover both sides.

Ricoh Mail Merge Solution by ratb- June 2009

I just wanted to send you an email letting you know that the mail merge with our monthly 8 page publication (designed in Publisher) is now working like we have been wanting it to work for the past 2 years.

I had actually printed off the article 891904 dated 7/27/06 that you suggested, back in 2007.  Everything seemed to be in order but we still couldn't get the publication to print on the Ricoh LD160 without it trying to combine all 900 records into one printout.......

I was working on the Ricoh LD160 yesterday when a CPN executive from Ricoh walked in to "introduce" Ricoh products to us.  After explaining the situation to him, he made a comment that made me ask a question that had us back at the computer making changes.  Long story short:  we were sending our publication to the Ricoh printer to do a print job under Document Server as instructed when we first purchased the LD160.  We should have been sending the publication to the Ricoh printer making changes on the pop-up print screen as follows: "normal" print should have been the print job; change the Duplex box from "off" to "Booklet"; check the "non-reduction booklet" box; click OK to "double-sized" paper of the document size; and turn on the staple function!

 Works like a charm.....

Publisher 2003 and mail merge can work great if you know how to make it "talk" to the printer correctly.  I should have been more aggressive in getting a representative on-site from Ricoh and resolved this problem months ago.

I do want to thank you for the advise you sent me and say that it will work as long as someone knows how to correctly direct a publication to their printer.
